Police will not ask for criminal charges after a deadly fire apparatus vs apparatus crash last year
Houston police are not asking for criminal charges after a deadly fire truck crash last year, and now the report is being reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office. Two fire trucks collided on Westheimer and Dunlavy on their way to a call in March 2009, killing cyclist Leigh Boone. The collision also injured nine firefighters and one other civilian. The driver of one of the trucks was ticketed after the crash and a subsequent investigation revealed the driver of the ladder truck was at fault for failure to use due caution. Back in January, Houston city council voted on a $225,000 settlement for Boone’s parents.
Texas Firefighters Kicked Their Way Out Of Fire
Fort Worth firefighters injured during an arson Wednesday at a Fort Worth business are confused about the unknown arsonists’ motives and frustrated with the lack of suspects. “Why they’d want to do something like that … I don’t know,” said firefighter Alfred Alfaro. “For money? Revenge? We’re firefighters; we have to go home to family too.” Thanks to their training and quick thinking, the firefighters escaped Hydro-Expo in West Fort Worth unharmed. But it wasn’t easy to escape the blaze, which was started by two men with propane tanks, accelerant and a flare. “I heard a pop, snap, and the whole thing came on top of us,” said Lt. David Childs. “It hit me in the head, sho…
