Cutbacks in the fire department cannot be blamed for the damage done to a multi-family home on Fairmount Avenue that burned Saturday afternoon, Mayor Sue Kay said. “I believe there are so many different reasons why something burns so quickly,” she said Sunday. The house that burned Saturday afternoon is not far from the fire department’s building on Broad Street, which no longer has firefighters assigned to it. Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Davis has his office in that building, and he was there when the fire broke out.
